FOCUS GROUP REPORT

Introduction
MAJMIN Project addresses families of minor offenders as direct beneficiaries of its activities
and results. In favour of family members the objective of the project is to offer them specific
competences and skills to face problems of juvenile crimes of their children and/or to
foresee prevention measures.
Together with the Curricula and the Handbook for professional, MAJMIN project also
realised sessions of discussion and brainstorming with family members and parents of minor
offenders or at risk of offending, as opportunity to share information, knowledge,
difficulties, resources and solution. The technique of Focus Group were therefore applied
and implemented by project partners.
The Focus Group is a qualitative technique of data collection used in social research and
based on the information which emerge from group interaction, at the presence of one or
more moderators, on a issue or topic that the researchers wants to investigate in depth. The
feature, which is also the great advantage of the focus group, lies in the interaction that is
created between the participants, information interaction that produces a much greater
extent than single interview both of quantity than in quality of deepening.
Within MAJMIN, a guideline for the realisation of Focus Group has been created, to be used
by project partner as a reference for the invitation and conduction of one or more session
with parents and family member.
Thanks to the focus group realised, MAJMIN project better understood the needs of the
beneficiaries involved, through a representative sample of latter; present document is aimed
at reporting of Focus Group implemented by project partner, together with some general
final consideration, supporting the finalisation of MAJMIN Curriculum and Handbook.

Target group of MAJMIN Focus Group
Main target group of the Focus Group within MAJMIN are parents and family members who
should take care of minor offenders.
Moreover, target group of the MAJMIN Focus Group were identified in parents and family
members of young individuals not in situation of crimes or offending, but living in
environment that can be considered at risk of deviance (e.g. lower opportunities in terms of
socio-economic condition, in terms of family origins, in terms of geographical provenance,
etc.).

Therefore, the target group for the MAJMIN Focus Group were parents and family members
selected and involved through juridical cases, as well as through youth and social services
(e.g. Juvenile Aggregation Centre, social daily centre for young people between 14 and 22
years), and through educational and schooling services (e.g. colleges, schools and
educational centres attended by young people).
